The Collection Volume

The volume in which the collection is bound, was originally purchased by Mary Livens in 1859 from John and Thomas Spencers' shop in the Market Place at Leicester as a gift to her husband for their 10th wedding anniversary and was probably made to order for the collection. The business was founded in 1853 as Printers, Binders and Stationers and continued to trade into the next century. This picture gives an impression of the shop as it looked about 1900.
